Recently, I’ve been coming across some passionate Hindus on social media who are convinced that Vaiṣṇava institutions such as ISKCON are teaching an “Abrahamic” form of Hinduism, largely due to their emphasis on monotheism. They claim that Hinduism, in allowing plurality of beliefs, was also inherently polytheistic, and that any assertion of a supreme deity was equivalent to an imperial, Abrahamic imposition on Hinduism. Their words carry an air of indignation, resignation, and of wanting to check the influence of such corrupting ideas.

Scripture and the conceptual sophistication of divine supremacy | Is Hinduism polytheistic?
Scripture and the conceptual sophistication of divine supremacy

Vedantic texts are very precise when referring to different kinds of deities, and when it comes to referring to the Supreme Lord, the texts do not miss the mark. Below I demonstrate seven different ways in which the Supreme Lord is identified through His characteristics, along with a short explanation of why this represents the Supreme Lord.

Where Vedāntic Monotheism Surpasses & Transcends Other Monotheisms | Is Hinduism polytheistic?
“I offer my humble obeisances unto the Supreme Controller, whose very form is composed of eternal existence, absolute knowledge, and limitless bliss (sac-cid-ānanda).
